International Women's Day gives us a great excuse to delve into what we know about women and women's roles in the medieval world. What were the sort of expectations that were placed on them by their contemporary society? What could they actually do and how did they live? And importantly, does any of that actually matter to us in our society today? So I have the perfect person of course to come and talk to me about this. My guest for today's episode is someone I've spoken to before on the podcast. I've got medievalist Dr Eleanor Janagar who's based at the London School of Economics. She has a brand new book out just now which is absolutely brilliant on this topic.
