The Role of Telomeres in Aging

In human cells, we have a lot of checkpoints to ensure this doesn't happen. When we've kind of eroded these telomeres, the cell can no longer safely divide without running the risk of leading to cancer progression or other sorts of mutations that can affect how our body performs and exists. And so that's why different organs, different systems in our body can potentially age at different rates because these cells are all dividing at different rates. They all have finite different life spans, and this all kind of culminates in us aging as a whole.
