Rain Comes From the Clouds

According to aviewyou commonly here in some circles, the israelites conceptualized the universe as being filled with a cosmic ocean. The idea is that the earth was supposed to be thought of as a flat disc, or flat surf at least, with waters below it and covered by a bowl shaped dome. Unless god opened the windows of heaven in the firmament to let the waters in, resulting in nnow i don't deny that the hebrew bible uses language that could suggest that picture of the world, but there's a question of how literally it was intended.
