The Importance of Nature in Empire

I don't personally believe that a great deal of interest was taken by imperial administrators and businessmen. I think people go out to bring back fortunes, and I think that plantations and intervening in the agriculture of non-European countries is a means to that end. The idea of torturing and performing violence over nature becomes quite dominant. And the second idea is that the empire is seen in terms of nature. Empire and nature go together. There's a hierarchy in nature, there're a hierarchy in empire, and the hierarchy in nature is seen in Terms of Victorian Britain.
