Left Behind Books and Movies Are Important
The idea that people who are Christians will be raptured or disappeared by God into heaven and everybody else will be left behind for a thousand year tribulation. This is all drawn from the book of Revelation, which is the last book in the Bible. Most serious Bible scholars believe that this reading of Revelation is hyper literalist but that's where it comes from. It really does create a nihilism and a sense of like, I don't really care what happens. In fact, it's good if things get worse because they have to if Jesus is going to come back.
