The American team exited China through Hong Kong on the 17th of April 1971 and they returned to the US to a slew of media questions. With diplomatic channels opened by the Ping Pong gambit, just four months later, in July 1971, Henry Kissinger would make a secret trip to China. The Chinese delegation arrived in New York to take their seats in the UN and reminded us again of that strange alliance that may be emerging in the 70s.
