The Man Who Flew Into Space From His Apartment
There was huge interest in Russian art at that time, Sotheby's hell to sail of Russian avant-garde and contemporary Soviet art in Moscow in 1988. Lucy says it effectively creates a market as well because up until this point non-conformist artists weren't really making work to be sold on a market. They were mainly making work for small recognized safe audiences of like-minded individuals. By the late 80s art begins to vanish out of the country because it's going into the hands of hungry western collectors.
