The Problem With the Blackouts in South Africa

86% of electricity is generated through coal-fired power stations. The country has been built around this and it's the easiest resource that one can get to generate power. With power stations, they have a lifespan of a certain years, some 30 years, some 50 years. And some have reached the end of their life and they have to be decommissioned. But nothing is in place to replace that, unfortunately. I think it was also linked to the issue of corruption, where money that isn't meant for certain things in terms of repairs and all of that just didn't get to that.
