Introduction
Major U.S. equity markets sputtered after a sizzling January as sellers were back in style. The Nasdaq sang 2.4%, the S&P 500 dropped 1.1% and the Dow lost about 0.2%. More than 40 million call option contracts, or bets that the underlying stock will rise in the future, changed hands in a single day last week. According to JP Morgan, individual traders have ramped up purchases of call options on single stocks to highest level since August.
