Sertorius was able to turn a retreat into a sort of victory, because for the guorilla warrior, who was generally fighting a war of atrician you know, to survive, to fight another day. The next year, spaniard cities started to defect in larger numbers. Many had supported him because they genuinely thought sertorius stood a better chance of winning than his opponents. And plutarch counts this as one of the main factors, paradoxically, that led to his undoing.
