The Cultural Revolution in China

In 1966, Chairman Mao launched the Cultural Revolution. The aim was to purge remaining capitalist and traditional influences in Chinese society. But inside the Communist Party, it was viewed as a power grab. Among those targeted were artists, intellectuals, landlords and those considered to be spies. At least 100,000 people died by suicide during the campaign.
