The Holy Spirit Proceeds From the Father Through the Son

The belief that church held that the Holy Spirit not only proceeds from the Father, but also from the Son goes back to the early church. The disagreement over this came to a head in the 11th century in 1054 when the church split going on. There was an effort by the churches in the years that followed that to reconcile. In the year 1438, the church offered another formulation and the other would be acceptable because it's also an early formulation.
