The Trail of Tears was a mass movement that really sage things like the Assyrian Holocaust and the Holocaust in Germany. What do you think was going on in the US at that time that kind of allowed people to say, Hey, let's just do these things that were brutal? I would argue similarly to what happens in Europe and then in the 20th century is that the state starts to become more powerful. They start putting more faith in the government this idea manifest destiny. And when we get things like the Trail of Tears it's very easy to justify something when you remove God from the equation.
