If you really care about somebody, if you really want them to get better and feel more confident, you will tell them that what they're bringing to you isn't good enough or needs work. The discomfort you feel in the short term is a massive favor that you're doing over the long term. You made a name off of simplifying complex ideas. If your goal is to make knowledge accessible, which mine has been for a few years, the idea of making things more complicated for the sake of chasing a more sophisticated reader is completely the antithesis of my goal. I'm not saying nobody should use complicated language but it does come down to empathy.
