The Pressure to Be Different
I think there's sometimes a pressure in any minority, there's a pressure for somebody to come along and explain or to justify. And we can only represent our own family. I remember when I first met David and almost every white person that met David would get the conversation round to the fact that David was black. But it doesn't change me if you're different. You can still be you. It just means I might have to use different pronouns. Big deal. Can we talk about misgendering? because I just did it.
