Henry Murray, the researcher behind the stress test, is known to have worked with the OSS. It's possible it was designed to investigate verbal abuse as an interrogation tactic. As a result, Ted became distrustful of institutions and stubborn in his belief in his intellect. If he was going to be attacked, he would be ready to fight back.
