The Importance of Mortifications

I think that we have to be able to experience our solitude in order to hand it over to the Lord. And so, mortifications like penances like this, they kind of clear out the space such that we can cling to higher goods. So an image that I have in my mind is at the end of the Odyssey. You know, you kind of keep them at arm's length because they are so many suitors and they want to ensnare your heart. But when they do so, they're going to make you want faithful to the bridegroom who come with at the end Of The Age.
