How to Structure a Family Transition
I think one of my biggest mistakes was probably thinking that I had all the answers. What I should have done is probably join the IOD Institute Directors or something like that and do a bit more networking with peers of the business directors. And how did you structure things with your parents? Because you mentioned that they remain shareholders in the business right through to sale. Was that a kind of clean break for them? Or did they stay involved in the business in some way?
