The Great General Strike of 1926
The great general strike of 1926 was the first and really were the only real official general strike ever called by the trade unions congress. The motive for it is a dispute between coal miners and their employers at this time in the 1920s before the coal industries nationalized. It's essentially why we are seeing nurses and teachers striking with greater levels of militancy today than we have ever seen before but the general strike still goes on 100 years later.
