As humans built empires and could travel over very long distances, diseases like syphilis started to spread. The other big factor is that as we started to build civilizations, began to live in smaller and smaller geographical areas. And you know, when we were hunter-gatherers living in wide open spaces, it was harder for diseases to pass from one person to another because there's lots of space. As we started to live in cramped quarters right next to each other in big buildings or in closely, you know, just close quarters, all of a sudden, diseases started to spread like wildfire. That's when you start to see more and more of these big pandemic epidemic level events.
