Is There a Common Denominator?
I've dealt with a lot of those same feelings of ambiguity because my mom's white, my dad's black and I'm pretty fair skinned. And it really took me a long time to be very firm in my blackness. But I think that that's definitely been something that I've been dealing with in my music. Like we should all be upset about a clear injustice that is happening. The way that you're racialized within society is always changing. Some people might call you black, some people may call you white just to be difficult or exclude you from the black community.
