The Trap of Supportive Attitudes
In stark contrast to a supportive stance of the kind that I was describing, there are two other attitudes that are not what I would call supportive but that are very common among parents. And one of them is what we call the demanding parent or what some people might call the suck it up buttercup. They're they might be really well intentioned but I think of them as traps because they actually get in the way of being more supportive.
