A lot of the traits are just passed on by the genes in an environment doesn't matter very much. A loving parent makes a kid later on loving and says that a brutal parent traumatizes the kid. And to the extent environment matters, there's sometimes 50%, 60% 40%. It doesn't seem to have so much to do with parenting, but more experiences outside the home. You'd expect adopted kids to be very much like the biological kids to raise the same way. But it doesn't happen as much as it is.
