Is There a Benefit to Fasting?
Fasting is one mechanism of introducing that kind of randomness and variation. There are a few diseases that fasting does not have a positive effect on. I think it's important for us to acknowledge that although we're talking about the microbiome quite a bit, everything GI is not microbiome,. So it's entirely possible and almost certain that fasting has benefits and effects that have literally nothing to do with the microbiome.
