Sex and Age Differences in Skeletons
For babies, children and teenagers it's very hard to tell what sex the individual was. But in adults, there are two areas of the skeleton that we typically look at most. The pelvis or the hips are a functional characteristic if you like because they tend to be broader and have a wider birth canal for the baby to pass through in women. In the skull, they're mainly secondary sex characteristics such as brow ridges above the eyes.
