Cornwallis and the Battle of Guildford Court House

The battle at guildford court house was the quintessential pyric victory for cornwallis. He had won the battle and held the field, but he had lost something like a quarter of his men in the process. Not that cornwallis's troubles were over when he ditched the carolina swamp. His next base of operations would be on the chesapeake bay, at a place called yorktown, virginia. But about a week after the americans crossed into virginia, green received some bad intelligence of his own, that the recruitment drive in north carolina was working. If he didn't act fast cornwallis might command an beatable army.
