Excavation Failure: What to Expect

Most often the reason why pediatric patients get re-intubated is because of upper airway obstruction. Other causes for extubation failure are inability to manage airway secretions and diaphragmatic weakness. Some risk factors that are associated with extubationfailure are young age, so less than 24 months of age or chronic respiratory disorder. And then any need to replace the endotracheal tube on admission.
