I think the overall message, and this is a great place to wrap up, is everything you just said speaks to kind of the whole theme of managing a lab-sided friendship. Friendships are voluntary; we're all here because they mean a lot to us. And it is a gift. But there's also gifts you can give yourself with friendship. Part of that is taking control and being mindful of the way you frame requests. Those are gifts you give yourself too.
