Open relationships occupy this bizarre middle ground between monogamy and polyamery that i think it's not entirely clear. Whatever reasons we give against poliamery, for open relationships, would in fact, also be reasons for monogamy. I will say that one argument for open relationships over p amory is the importance of building a life together in a sort of couple form. But when you imagine living with somebody, building a life with somebody, sharing things with them, there is a benefit to having a higher archical relationship where one person is your primary partner.
