The Role of Wonder in Philosophy

The history of wonder and Western philosophy is very interesting. It starts out indeed with Plato in the Theathetists where you know, one of the interlocutants of Socrates is completely thrown off and perplexed. And then he says, I don't know how to even deal with all these questions that you throw at me. But Aristotle has a different take - his take is that wonder is something that is given to everybody, not just philosophers. Even though the emotion of wonder is an important one, it is very easy to get caught up with everyday like concerns. You can nevertheless stimulate your sense of wonder by reading, for instance, science fiction or watching a science fiction show or movie
