The History of the British East India Company
The British first arrived in the Indian subcontinent in 1615 as merchants. By 1808 the British and the EIC had control over pretty much all of India. They taxed local Indians very heavily and they also confiscated the best lands from the local Indian landlords. The one incident that really pushed things over the edge for the suppoys were the issuance of new Enfield rifles.
