The Tension in the White Community
The National World War I Museum says many whites feared that the return of tens of thousands of black veterans with experience living abroad and more significantly having military training would be unwilling to resubmit to traditional political and social subjugation in the U.S. So here's some evidences of what was taking place at the time. US Postal Officer May 1919, so this is going to be right when they're returning. One of the principal elements causing concern is the returned Negro soldier who is not readily fitting back into his prior status of pre-war times.
