Is there a word for this school of thought that more confucian or buddhist or aristotelian, a that is not rule based? I've heard virtue ethics, yes, a term is that. And the reason i tended not to is that the virtue ethics people, those who are philosophers, that is to say, are not really interested in the brain at all. They want to do it all t talking about the brain and im ing o, reve think, o, no, no, nots that kon of work. It's sone ting to work.

Where did that come from? Today’s guest, Patricia Churchland, is a philosopher and neuroscientist, one of the founders of the subfield of “neurophilosophy.” We dig into the neuroscience of it all, especially how neurochemicals like oxytocin affect our attitudes and behaviors. She is currently the President’s Professor of Philosophy (emerita) at the University of California, San Diego, as well as an adjunct professor of neuroscience at the Salk Institute.
