The Indonesian Government's Admission That Alumina Smelters Are Not Coming Online
Indonesia already has four facilities to process box site into alumina and some of them go further and process it further into aluminum. The export ban in place, the ore can only be sold domestically. It means that well over half, almost two thirds of mining capacity needs to shut down because there's nowhere to put the ore until new smelters come on stream.
