Tulsi Das's Ramcharit Manas makes what you call the divine assumption. It takes his divinity as a starting point. The key part of Walmiki's Ramayana is that Rama does not himself know that he is divine and this is his purpose. So, when you were engaging with this text, therefore, it is not merely a text, but in all the mirrors and the versions that exist of this text, it is really a history of a society as it were.
The Ramayana is not one book, but a living text with countless versions across languages, each reflecting the values of its time and place.
