And so the basic thing to do is, if you have access to a distribution over the things and it looks like these two variables are independent, then you kind of assume they're orthognal in whatever underlying structure produced that distribution. But i think that like orthognalty, orthognalty is something that you can basely observed through its connection to independence versus ime is not as much.
