The Science of Mantis Shrimp
Mantis shrimp have amazing eyesight. Their eyes have 12 receptors that allow them to see color, whereas we humans only have three. Being able to see UV light gives mantis shrimp an advantage in the wild. The ocean can be a dark place, which makes food hard to find. Because many animals absorb UV light, the mantis shrimp can spot their prey more easily.
