All that matters is if there's an agreement on how the value is divided. Apple doesn't have to pay itself 30 percent for its iBook store. If amazon wanted to sell kindle books through their app, they would have to give apple 30 percent. Those things aren't compatible right so with reddit they're saying okay, we can charge this much through the API and They're probably thinking Well, all the app users are going to be angry about it.
