The Origins of the Trinity
The relationship between God the Father and God the Son is very much conceived by early Christians in terms of a sort of Platonic first principle. They might be co-eternal even, but they're not one principle,. And they even use the word logus, whatever it means, to describe the second person of the Trinity which also sounds rather platonic. But do you think that they were actually reaching for ideas? I mean, I think clearly this happens later on with, say, the Capidocians. Do you think that that's also true of these early church fathers?
