Howard Hughes and Billy Dev's Divorce in Nevada
Billy Dev filed for divorce from her husband Will Hughes in 1930. The only way to get a quick divorce in those days was to do it in Nevada. But you had to be a resident of Nevada for at least six weeks in order to divorce there, which somewhat negated the quickness. Ella agreed pretty easily to a civilized divorce. She'd take 1.2 million payable and yearly installments through 1933. Howard's lawyers figured out that a shed on a farm wouldn't satisfy Nevada's residency requirements after all. They gave up the charade and went back to Hollywood.
