Mac the Knife
The first time I heard Mack the Knife sung by Bobby Darren was about 1958. It made murder and crime seem exciting and interesting it was a bit like discovering that there was maybe something I could do in the future which was become a criminal or a murderer. Lottie Lanya was Kurt Viles' widow when Matt the Knife was becoming so famous they had been married since the mid 1920s, she was also a singer. The three penny opera is concerned until the early 1950s when the piece was performed at Brandeis University with Leonard Bernstein as the conductor.
