The marquessan islands are known for the marquessan warriors that used to inhabit these islands up until the twelfth century. Hika was held captive by stephen arihano, who would beat her and then walk off into the jungle without saying anything. She managed to free herself from his grip after he hit her in the head with a gun but had no idea where he was. The couple's satellite phone allowed authorities to find them three days later on one of the islanders' boats.
