The Death of a PNG Prisoner

In early 2014, more detainees arrived pushing the centre beyond its capacity and tensions boiled over. Guards responded with violence to what they described as a riot. PNG police entered the compound and scores of locals who were unhappy with the men being housed there at all. For two days, detainees were attacked with knives, machetees and guns. David's gums bled so much that he couldn't chew for weeks. One died. He's saying we are human beings. Please help us. We're begging you. Our minds don't work anymore.
