Polly's muscles relaxed, the hardwood floor drifted away and softly she began to chant. The words were hard to pronounce, would have come impossible to any human tongue, but she had practised them since childhood. She focused on her breathing, slow and steady - counting the seconds to balance each one, end,. One, two, three, four and out, two,Three. As she spoke the words, her voice took on a steady rhythm and cadence born of long practice, and her body began to rock along with it. Her nerves thrumped, then her mind opened, and the darkness pooled inside, and suddenly she was some place else.
