i've been thinking about this a lot in talking with various cognitive scientists and computer scientists. How do we get an apples to apples comparison here? From a methodological standpoint it's very difficult, i think. There is potential gap between performance and competence that is relevant here. We need to reject this all or nothing approach where either these models must have human-like intelligence or they must not be intelligent at all.
