The Liberal Nostalgia for the Growth Rates of the 50s and 60s
When exploited classes are too divided, you need a lot of centralization to channel any oppositional energy towards the system of exploitation. There's such a low incentive in that kind of climate for building an organization that could channel any oppositionally energy. It seems likely that the liberal nostalgia for the growth rates of the 50s and 60s seems to be just a just an nostalgia because it doesn't seem that those conditions can return. But neither is it clear that say a return to 1920s conditions would lead to anything better as we saw in the 1920s.
