The Importance of Freedom of Speech
If the ruling class has a right to rule, then it is in their purview to do whatever they want. So even if dictators were absolutely benevolent, it would still be their duty to get rid of people who speak out against the good of the group. It's not an accident that the freedom of speech arises in the West as a principle of English common law. The rights are already ours. The question is whether we want to limit ourselves. That's what it means to be free. But there are always those who forget the importance of our freedoms or fail to appreciate how important they are.
