The Importance of Ecological Fitting in Human Agriculture
Ecological fitting is simply a tool that helps us understand how ecosystems form and shift over time. It's not a defense of invasive species, but rather an explanation as to why certain species seem to play better with native plants or move into these spaces better than others. Community ecology and phylogenetic biology comparatively offer a more careful approach to the long-term impacts of these relationships. The average number of bird species was also significantly lower in Common Read than short grass marshes as well.
