The Importance of BCG in Protecting Adults From Respiratory Infections
It's been very hard to show the effect of BCG on infections because really, other than doing something special like this low birth weight cohort, it's not ethical to randomize it. Now we have some data in these three studies that show that it seems to also work in protecting adults and elderly against respiratory infection. When you have a vaccine that can be sold for seven cents a dose, no one is going to really make a fortune of selling BCG.
