How Deep Did You Grow Up With the Black Power Movement and How Did Your Parents React to It?
While black power rejected much of what you'd grown up with the whole kind of respectability politics of your parents it had some unforeseen advantages such as giving you an excuse to stop talking to various people you felt insulted or slighted by who said the personal always had to be honorably political. How deeply involved were you in the ferment of black power at the time how did your parents react to this new enthusiasm? "I was an amateur who went to demonstrations ... my sister and I argued with our parents constantly"
